Christmas Around the Yellow House

As we are drawing closer to Christmas (it’s eight days away, can you believe it?), I decided to share a bit of what the Christmas vibe around our house is like in the decorations department. We sort of throw tinsel or garland or ribbon on most things because we get kind of drunk with excitement :-) So my first photo is of our lucky bamboo plant. It never had a chance to escape…so now it is draped with ribbons for the next few days. bamboo plant with ribbons This happened during a gift wrapping session ;-) Next we have “The Christmas Kids”, yet another set of mascots, like Trevor, except they only come out at Christmas. We named them that because we couldn't think of anything else to call them when we bought them a couple of years ago. We have Santa, who is a bit off to the side in this photo, and a reindeer, a happy little penguin, the snowman, and a perky Christmas tree. Fun bunch, huh? :-) The best part is that they sort of dance around…well they sway mostly, but it’s fun when they do it in a line like they’re in a musical or something. Here they are: plush toy decorations Christmas The other day, Brit Boy and I were in town and we saw that they had poinsettias. They had big ones and they had tiny single ones. We opted for the tiny one in a tiny gold pot. I love the deep red of it. red poinsettia And last, but not least, we have our little Christmas tree. It’s an artificial one. It’s kinda sparse in some spots, but it’s still cute and does the trick to set the mood. Christmas tree So this is just a taste of what our house looks like at Christmas. Merry Christmas from me, Brit Boy, and our various mascots :-) Also I want to wish everyone all the best whether you celebrate Christmas or another holiday during this time :-)

Health Nut Wannabee Mom,
The bamboo decorating may become a tradition at our house...it turned out good :) Awww, that's so cute that you let your little ones decorate and I know that it does warm your heart. Merry Christmas!

Mike,
Glad you like them :) And Merry Christmas!

Kathy,
Yeah, the bamboo plant is just growing and growing like a tree, so we figure we'd decorate it tree-like :) He/she does look happy...you're right!

Jacqueline,
I'm glad you liked it. I love giving that Christmas feel to things. We draped the pictures on the walls in the entry with stars and fake holly hanging off of them. It looks kinda quirky the way we did it, but then that's us. LOL. Merry Christmas! :)

Ivanhoe,
Thanks! Merry Christmas! :)

Jewelry Rockstar,
Yep, Brit Boy laughed when I draped the bamboo with ribbons. LOL. And the Christmas Kids are a trip, especially when they dance. We have way too much fun laughing at them :)

Sara,
Glad you like our little holey tree...we're gonna start a new trend...holey hip tree chic! LOL. Have a great Christmas :)

I loved the way you decorated. I especially love the Christmas Kids because I'm a big fan of Trevor. The bamboo plant was a neat idea too. Your house looks very festive.
Merry Christmas, happy holidays and all the best to you this season.

Nice decorations! I tend to decorate my dining and living room table only. I wish I could have poinsettias, but my cat nibbles them and they're very bad for a cat's health!

Dori, I couldn't help myself. I went to the dollar store yesterday to pick up some paper towels and I saw this adorable black doll. It was a boy and giggled when you squeeze him.

I will of course hide him when the BF comes over.

I love the whole thing. It is so fabulous! the bamboo plant is so creative, the kids are cute, the poinsettia is gorgeous and the tree is so much fun. I hope you both (three if you count Trevor) have an amazing Christmas.

Dori, what pretty decor and I love your tree. HELP... I have a bamboo and I am killing it, lol! What am I doing wrong? By the way, thank you so much for your kind words and prayers too Dori. I have missed you. Have a wonderful weekend.

Mountain Woman,
Glad you like our decorations. Yeah, Trevor is trying to get a caroling group together with the Christmas Kids :) The bamboo plant may indeed become a tradition with us. We like it the more we look at it :) Merry Christmas and all the best to you too!

Duni,
I'll bet your decorations are neat. I love a table decked out for Christmas. Too bad that you can't have the poinsettias, but you're right...we have to protect our little furry friends. Merry Christmas! :)

Alicia,
I know what you mean...sometimes I see things like that and I have to have them. He sounds so cute :) He'll just be our little secret, so the BF will never know ;-) Merry Christmas!

Anne,
So glad you like our decorations around the yellow house :) Brit Boy, Trevor, and I will be sitting down later to watch some Christmas movies to start our lead-up to Christmas. Thank you and I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas too! :)

Jodi,
I'm glad you like our decorations :) As for the bamboo, I had a little one before and it died...too much water and the container was too small. But these new ones that I've had for about a year...from what I read, they need a container that is big enough so they aren't too scrunched up and then you shouldn't put too much water in there or the roots rot. They say just enough to keep the roots watered, but not too much so the bottom of the stalk doesn't get moldy. And so far (crossed fingers) (smile), they have been living and absolutely thriving. So try a container with enough space for however many you have...not too crowded and just enough water to keep the roots watered. I hope that this helps. Let me know how it goes :) And you are one of my dear bloggy friends Jodi, so you are always in my prayers. You have a wonderful weekend and a Merry Christmas!

Those are really nice decorations. I especially like the tinsel on the tree. This is something that I have forgotten to do over the years and I miss it. Have a great Christmas;-)

The poinsettas are really beautiful, and I like those, too.
Sounds like you all are really into it, with all the decorating and holiday preparations.

Hope you all continue to enjoy it as the day draws closer!

Lovely simple Christmas statments, bravo on your very minimal but wholly effective efforts.

Tahtimbo,
Yeah, we figured we'd do the tinsel this year...like you said it's one of those things that gets left off trees lately :) Have a Merry Christmas!

Renee,
Yep, the Christmas Kids love doing their Christmas sway...lol. The bamboo has become our new favorite. Happy Holidays to you too! :)

Mikaela,
Merry Christmas! :)

Fitness Diva,
Yeah, I like the red and white poinsettias. I think I've even seen pink before, but I may be imagining that :) We're going to have a nice low-key Christmas and eat lots of cake and then start working out again on Dec 26...LOL.
Merry Christmas :)

Martin,
Yep, we like those little touches here and there :) Merry Christmas!
