Snow Is the Word

Well, we had snow overnight again and it is still snowing out here in Wiltshire. It’s pretty to look at, but it’s tough to get around. The main roads are fine, but out where we live, some of the roads are kind of piled up. The local authorities are running out of grit/salt so they aren’t able to treat many of the roads. So there is a scramble going on. I learned something new about this whole grit/salt business from the news the other day that I didn’t know. Apparently they put molasses in some of the grit/salt here to help it grip better. Who knew :-)

We keep getting lots of snow each night. It’s been back and forth. It revved up again overnight and we woke up to more snow this morning. Right now it’s really coming down again. It looks like little white feathers falling out of the sky.

Here’s a photo I took from the upstairs window earlier, before it started snowing hard again. I went outside to check things out. Gotta see what's going on in "the shire" ;-) I had been beaten to making tracks in the snow though. Brit Boy had beaten me to it earlier when he left for work and then I met the lady who hands out the newspaper supplement. So there was lots of traffic down our path. I am still thinking about going out to make a snow angel later. We shall see :-) I think I’ll wait for Brit Boy and we can make a matching set.

We were due to have our garbage pickup today, but I don’t think they will be making it down our street today. We have a hilly, winding, narrow street that’s getting trickier to drive down by the minute, so it’s probably best that they don’t try it today. We’ll be fine though…our wheelie bin is only about half full.

So the word for this week in wintry Wiltshire is definitely….SNOW! :-) Have a great weekend!

Hello from Hertfordshire. We still have some snow on the ground from Monday's snow storm and we got a bit more last night but it was only a dusting really. It's raining now. It sounds like your weather is a bit worse where you are.

I heard that about molasses being added to the grit. Funny, that! I've also been hearing about the shortage of grit and salt. If this snowy weather continues for much longer, it will be a disaster for travelling.

I hope the weather improves soon. In the meantime, take care and keep warm!

I know those who get a lot of snow get tired of it, but for someone who's never had the opportunity I would love to be in it just once.

I'm personally tired of the snow. I cannot wait for the spring to come. I like watching it fall from my window, but I hate driving around in it and cleaning it of my car & driveway. And I hate the cold. It has been really cold around here.
Stay warm and have a great weekend, Dori!

Mmm snow is so pretty and messy .. sigh sigh... someone forgot to salt the streets I live on so walking is pretty darn hazardous! Hope you be careful out there too.

Hey Dori!
Lord knows I don't really miss the snow since I spent all those years in Wisconsin. Nevertheless, it was beautiful when it came down. Maybe if I had taken up skiing, I'd have a different attitude about it.

Thanks for sharing the photos and take it easy on the treadmill. :-)

Pretty pictures, but it helps me to appreciate the 70-something degree weather we're having in Houston, even more.

I'm glad you all liked my photos. The last of our snow finally melted in our back yard the other day so it's all gone for now :-)
